Colorado Education Association Endorses Dr. Yadira Caraveo for HD-31

Thornton, CO, June 27th -- Recognizing her commitment to defending public education, the Colorado Education Association (CEA) has endorsed Dr. Yadira Caraveo for House District #31, distinguishing the candidate as a leader families and teachers can trust. Founded in 1875, the CEA has advocated on behalf of public schools and their faculty, leading statewide initiatives to encourage increased funding and classroom-based pedagogies over test-oriented practices.

The CEA has found the ideal leader to collaborate with in Dr. Caraveo, a daughter of immigrant parents who moved to Adams County from Mexico and enrolled their children in the public education system. She is a proud graduate of Northglenn High School, and as a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, she has excelled thanks to public education. In her campaign platform, she has highlighted public education as one of her top priorities, arguing that Colorado has failed to provide for one of the greatest responsibilities we have to the children in our state: access to a quality, free education. As a state legislator, she will fight to ensure that funding is fair across the state and that underserved populations have access to the same quality of schools as Colorado’s more affluent communities.

Dr. Caraveo released the following statement regarding CEA’s endorsement of her candidacy: “Public education made me who I am. I dreamed of becoming a doctor from the age of 3. Without the dedicated public educators who guided me along the way I would not have been prepared to go on to a private college then to medical school. Public education was better funded when I was a child than it is now, however, and as a pediatrician I see the failure of our underfunded schools to provide the resources necessary for this generation of kids to achieve their dreams. As a legislator I will be an advocate for kids like me, growing up with hard working families that need public schools to provide a quality education for the future.”

Dave Lockley, the President of District 12 Educators’ Association, also released the following statement on the CEA endorsement: "On behalf of educators across Adams County, I am proud to support a product of our public schools, and a true champion for our children. She will work tirelessly to make sure that every child has the opportunity to each their full potential no matter their zip code.

The campaign will work with the CEA in order to reach more voters across the district and inform them about Dr. Caraveo’s support for public education. They will also work together to advance public education through legislative means if the District elects Dr. Caraveo to the State House.

Every one of the groups or individuals I’ve met with, from Congressman Perlmutter at the start to AFL CIO most recently, has understood that my experience as a pediatrician comes with a vision to protect the children and families I care for every day. I look forward to working with all of these groups as the next representative from House District 31.”
